Pastoral Care Ministry OpportunitesAltar Flower Delivery
Serving in this ministry involves taking our altar flowers to those who are home bound, ill, or wherever requested.
Skills needed: A caring heart. Training Required: Printed guidelines and hands on walk through as needed Time Commitment: One hour each Monday from noon to 1:00 PM. Length of Commitment: One year or longer Contact Person: Claire Levingston Eucharistic Visitors
Eucharistic visitors are lay ministers licensed by the Diocese of West Texas who are authorized to take the sacrament of Holy Communion to the shut-in following celebration of the Eucharist at our church.
Skills needed: Willingness to serve. Training Required: Read the Manual for Eucharistic Visitors by Beth Ely. Discuss the contents of the manual with the Eucharistic Visitor Coordinator; accompany a Christ Church licensed Eucharistic Visitor when taking the Sacrament to a parishioner. Learn the names of the items contained in the Communion Kit and how to appropriately set up the kit for placement on the altar for consecration. Time Commitment: The time it takes to travel to the place of service and the time spent with the parishioner which is approximately 1 ½ hours total. Helping others with meals or other services in a time of need due to a crisis, death or extended illness.
Skills needed: A willingness to “be there” for the other, including gathering or preparing meals. Time Commitment: As needs arise. Touching base with people in hospital, rehabs, and nursing homes and checking on the status of each. Calling parishioners on their birthdays and writing up a report for the morning, sharing information with staff. Notifying the DOK prayer warriors captains of special prayer requests. Keep three prayer lists updated.
Skills needed: Love to talk to people Time Commitment: Two hours in morning (10:00-12:00) Length of Commitment: At least one year Contact Person: Carol Miller Visitations (Home, Health Care Facilities, & Hospitals)
Parishioners visit those who are in the hospital, in nursing homes, or even home bound. This ministry is coordinated through our Pastoral Care Desk and our Pastoral Care Administrator, Carol Miller. A volunteer will visit one day a week, checking with the church to see if there are those in the hospital or if their visit will be to someone in a nursing home etc.
Skills needed: A special place in the heart for those in need; a willingness to listen and be a friend. Training Required: Some information and direction can be given by our staff. It can also be very rewarding to take the Community of Hope Course which is directly related to pastoral care. This course is offered from time to time at Christ Church. Time Commitment: Usually several hours are set aside one day a week for this ministry. Length of Commitment: One year or longer Contact Person: Carol Miller Worship Ministries
WORSHIP AT THE CHANDLER CENTER
Worship services are held at Chandler on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month. These services begin at 1:30 PM on the first floor and communion is served. Recently twenty people attended this service. Volunteers arrive early and assist the people in getting to the area for worship. Time Commitment: 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, three Sundays a month Volunteers: Currently this service is being conducted by three volunteers. More are needed! And if we had a larger number of volunteers, possibly we could divide responsibilities and assign Sundays. Contact: Jean Goetz WORSHIP AT THE FORUM A worship service is conducted by Scott Kitayama and Carol Miller the second Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM in the Residential Living section of the Forum. Approximately 8 to 12 people attend. Volunteers: More volunteers are needed including a piano player. More volunteers would be an asset as they would welcome and visit with those attending as well as assist in the worship. Contact Person: Carol Miller Community of Hope Course
