Calling of Patrick Gahan to Christ Church

After many months of intense and prayerful work, the Search Committee presented to the Vestry their choice of the person to be the next Rector for Christ Episcopal Church. After a full presentation by the entire Search Committee, the Vestry decided to issue a call to that candidate, William Patrick Gahan, III.

Patrick expressed his great pleasure and honor in receiving the call, but did not want to accept until he had met with the Vestry to be sure that his vision for our church would be fully supported. That meeting was held and it was clear at the end that the right man had the complete support of the Vestry. He then accepted the call.

His present congregation, Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wimberley, Texas, will learn of his decision on the same day as we are sending out the word to you. The joy we feel here is unfortunately a sad time for our friends in Wimberley.

We had the pleasure of meeting Patrick's wife, Kay, and feel strongly that she will be a great blessing to our congregation. They have been married for 36 years and have two sons and one daughter involved in marriages and careers of their own.

Patrick has an impressive background which meets the criteria we set forth in our Parish Profile:

-demonstrated ability
-effective management
-proven record.

The following are a few highlights of his biographical sketch:

-He holds a degree as Doctor of Ministry

-Rector, Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wimberley, Texas 2005-present

-Chaplain, Saint James School, 2001-2005

-Rector, Saint Stephen's Church, Beaumont, Texas 1996-2001

-Head Chaplain, St. Stephen's Episcopal School, Austin, Texas 1990-1995

-Youth Minister St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Birmingham, AL 1981-82

Bishop Frey expressed his delight with the choice. He said, "Patrick is a man after God's own heart and without a doubt the one chosen by the Lord to lead Christ Church into its exciting future."

Welcome aboard, Patrick and Kay!
