Children's Chapel and Sunday School
Children's Chapels - Worshipping Together
10:15 – 10:45 AM
Preschool Cherub Choir and Chapel for 3 Year Olds – Kindergarten – Room 205
Elementary Chapel for 1st – 5th Graders – Second Floor Children’s Chapel
Our Children's Chapels enable our children to worship with their peers through scriptural learning, praise in song, and prayer. Chapel is the place for multi-age group celebration of our faith and teachings of the traditions of the Episcopal Church as we walk through the church year together. We follow an order of worship based on the Book of Common Prayer's model of the Communion service up to the point of the peace when children join their parents in the church service. Older elementary age children (3rd - 5th graders) serve as Junior Acolytes and Worship Leaders. Chapel Children will be brought into the church service to join parents for Communion at announcement time.

Sunday School

Sunday School is the heart of Children's Ministry where relationships are built and scripture is taught in a small group atmosphere facilitated through teaching teams at each level. We offer two of the best Christian formation opportunities available in our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Sunday School for 3 year olds - 2nd graders and Workshop Rotation Model Sunday School for 3rd - 5th graders.
Good Shepherd Sunday School - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Preschool 3 Year Olds – Kindergarten – Rooms 201 and 204 – Level II Atrium
1st and 2nd Grades – Room 208 - Level II Atrium
Level I Atrium - 3 Year Olds - Kindergarten
Level II Atrium - 1st and 2nd Graders
Our beautiful Good Shepherd Sunday School environments (Atriums) offer the most developmentally appropriate, Christ-centered, Bible-centered, and liturgically and sacramentally centered formation experience available. This program respects the spirituality and dignity of each child. Adult and teen shepherds serve as gentle guides to the children's learning experience. Children are given loving boundaries within the Atrium so they may have freedom to choose the work of their choice each Sunday. Shepherds present lessons on the life of Christ, parables of Christ, Holy Land geography, sacraments and liturgy, as well as maintenance of the class environment. The Atriums truly are safe and loving "sheepfolds" for our pre-schoolers at Level I and a community building "vineyard" for our 1st and 2nd graders at Level II.
"The Village Of God's Children" Workshop Rotation Model Sunday School for 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Opening Gathering – Room 302
Small Group Bible Studies and Creative Activities – Rooms 301, 302, and 303
Our beautiful "Village" learning environment was especially created to capture the interest of our oldest Children's Ministry children - 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The "Village" is located on the 3rd floor of the Family Ministry Center where upon entry you know you have come to a village where Jesus has been. Murals depicting important times and places in the life of Christ with accompanying scripture lead the way down the hall to three specialized classrooms: the Drama Room, the Movie Theater, and the Art Room. Each month a new unit of study based on Bible teachings or the sacraments is taught as children rotate to a different "workshop" learning space.
The Bible teaching is always central, but each week it is enriched through art, drama, a movie, cooking, games or music and movement. This great method means there is never a dull moment for our adventurous upper elementary as they learn about Christ and other Bible greats in creative ways!
It is Christ Church Safety Policy that all children be accompanied by parent/guardians to all class, chapel or choir locations upon arrival and be released only to these responsible parties at the conclusion of these events.
