Music

Music Ministry

Music at Christ Church is central to our parish history and identity as Christ followers and worshipers. Following the biblical model, we use our talents and resources to provide a musically relevant context in which to praise and pray to God in song. Our parish life is also enhanced by opportunities to attend and participate in special music and fellowship events.

The adult choir helps lead worship at the 11:00 AM Sunday and seasonal services, as well as special services such as weddings, memorial services, the Good Friday "Way of the Cross" service and the annual Festival of Lessons & Carols. They rehearse on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM, upstairs in the choir room.

If you wish to participate in the music program in any way, please contact the music director, Josh Benninger at 210-736-3132.

Children's Choirs

Calling all Children: Sing your way into Heaven on Wednesdays!!

Have you ever noticed how music sparks the memory? How did you learn your A, B, C’S? My guess is that there was a tune attached to it!

By joining one of our fine children’s choirs, your child will learn Scripture and God’s character through music. Many “graduated” Christ Church choir members, now in their late twenties, still remember the words to songs they sang while in Minisingers and Mastersingers—words of lasting value. Singing Scripture as a youngster sets it in your heart for all times. So, set aside those Wednesday afternoons for your child to learn God’s word through song—it could make an eternal difference!

Mastersingers (grades 3 & up) meet 4:15-5:15 and Minisingers (kindergarten grades, 1 & 2) meet 4:30-5:15 on Wednesday afternoons. “Sibling care”  will be available from 4:15-4:30 for those who have a sister or brother in the older choir. Please contact Ruth Berg 422-9963 for more information.

Children and teens are a vital part of the music program at Christ Church. There are many opportunities available for youth to praise God through song and music making. Whether as a soloist or support singer/player, youth between ages 4 and 18 are invited to grow in their service to God and His church. Through the texts of songs, they are invited to increase their knowledge of Him; through meaningful worship participation opportunities, they are encouraged to offer their talents to Him; through rehearsals and outreach performances, youth enjoy community with one another as they learn lifelong skills in music.

Choral opportunities exist throughout the school year, with 4 choirs divided according to age.

Minisingers
Grades 1-3: Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15 PM
With the addition of bell and Orff instrument accompaniments, Minisingers expand their knowledge of music and singing while learning to work as a group for the glory of God. We sing two to three times a semester during worship.

Mastersingers
Grades 3-6: Wednesdays, 4:15-5:15 PM
These children continue to grow in their knowledge of music, instrument playing, and vocal technique. This group sings in worship monthly, joins the Chancel Choir and orchestra for Lessons and Carols in December and enjoys additional outreach and community-building opportunities.

Sanctuary Singers
Grades 7-12
Emphasizing growth in spiritual, as well as musical areas, these singers stand as a group or may join the Chancel Choir and Mastersingers as worship services dictate. Rehearsals are scheduled around specific performances.

Instrumentals
Instrumental ensembles, with a focus on the Family Christmas Eve service, meet in late fall. The Christmas Handbell Choir & Christmas Instrumental Ensemble offer performance opportunities for students in 5th-12th grade, but all budding musicians are encouraged to share their gifts through the year.
