Christ Episcopal Church is a loving and welcoming church family, centrally located in the historic Monte Vista District of San Antonio, Texas. Our sanctuary is one of the most peaceful and beautiful churches in the country, but the real beauty of our church is our people. We are a large church, but with a small, familial feel and lots of ways to become involved.

Holy Week

Worship with us

At Christ Episcopal Church, we gather each week to worship in the Great Tradition of the Church. As we come to Holy Week, it is the high point of the entire church calendar. During this week, we find our place in the story of Jesus’ final days on earth before he goes to the cross. We invite you to enter the story with us.

The triduum

The “Three-Days” liturgies of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil (Saturday), compose the culmination of the church calendar year known as the Triduum.

  • The Triduum begins with the liturgy for Maundy Thursday, during which we remember the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, the love and service which Jesus lived and taught, and the agony in the garden of Gethsemene, and the betrayal leading to the crucifixion.

  • As we read the Passion and pray the Solemn Collects, we remember that it is our own sins that caused Christ’s suffering and agony. By the cross, we are redeemed; it is a sign of God’s never-ending love for us, as a sign of life, in the midst of death.
