How to Help 〰️
At baptism, we commit as a church body and faithful Christian community to “do all in our power to support these persons in their life in Christ”. This means that each and every one of us, as disciples of Jesus Christ, is responsible not only for our own formation but also for the formation of every child and youth. It is through our serving as teachers and mentors and leaders that our children and youth will come to know Jesus Christ in their life. And, by teaching, we grow in our own faith and deepen our own understanding of who God is.
Please let us know how you would like to help. Read full descriptions of the opportunities below.
Children’s Ministry Sunday School and Chapel
Lead Teacher
Purpose:
The purpose of the lead teacher is to help guide the teaching team as we explore this new opportunity to share God’s word with children, youth, and adults.
Time Commitment:
Lead teachers will commit to a rotating schedule within a single class team for an entire school year, August 2022 through May 2023.
Lead teachers should plan to spend about 30 minutes - 2 hours per week on the Orange curriculum.
Most weeks will be only 30 minutes of coordinating with teachers and church staff.
The week the lead teacher is teaching, they should expect to spend 1-2 hours on Orange.
Lead teachers are not required to teach every week, but they should be available to team members to coordinate supplies and help troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
The teaching rotation will be every 3-5 weeks, depending on the number of team members.
Responsibilities:
Manage their team’s Sunday schedules
Act as the point person between teachers and church staff
Make sure any needed supply requests are turned in on time
Receive feedback from children and parents
Teach within the rotation schedule
Teacher
Purpose:
The teacher’s purpose is to provide a safe, loving environment for children or youth to learn about God’s Big Story.
To present the Gospel message of the love and hope of Christ each Sunday by presenting a lesson based on scripture, creating an environment that encourages the building of relationships between children and adults in the Christian community.
Time Commitment:
Teachers will commit to a rotating schedule within a single class team for an entire school year, August 2022 through May 2023
Once every 4 to 6 weeks
Rotation depends on the number of members of each teaching team
The week the teacher is teaching class, they should expect to spend 1-2 hours reviewing that Sunday’s lesson: one hour for Biblical preparation and an additional hour to gather ideas and materials to best teach the lesson
Responsibilities:
On teaching Sundays, volunteers should have reviewed the lesson
Be knowledgeable about and able to tell the Bible story (scripts are available)
Be ready to have fun with your class.
Chapel Ministers
Purpose:
To create an atmosphere of worship appropriate for children through leading liturgy
The Chapel Order of Worship is: Music, the teaching of the Gospel Lesson, Prayers, and closing music
Time Commitment:
Once every 4 to 6 weeks
Rotation depends on the number of members of each teaching team
2 hours of preparation for the week you are leading
Take your pick of one of these 3 Chapel Team Positions:
Lesson Leader: Determine the Gospel Lesson for Sunday and make plans to teach this to the children through storytelling or any other creative way you can think of
Liturgy Leader: Lead the children in worship by following the Children’s Chapel Order of Worship. Familiarize yourself with this order which follows the adult order of worship in a simpler way.
Music Leader: Choose music/songs that fit the season of the church year or Gospels of your time of service. Be able to teach songs to the children and accompany them on a musical instrument if possible. One song can serve as both a processional song and a recessional song or you may choose two different songs.
Expectations:
If you cannot be present for your assigned Chapel leadership, please obtain a substitute from another team. We have to have a minimum of 2 adults in Chapel each Sunday in order to hold Chapel.
Accompany children to join their parents for Communion at the conclusion of Chapel. Make sure one adult leads and another adult brings up the end of the line of children for safety’s sake. When children enter church service, make sure all find their parents and remain to help those who cannot.
