Celebration of Discipline
Christianity Today hailed Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline as one of the most important Christian books of the 20th Century. Using Foster’s classic text as a guide, teachers Lou Kissling and Patrick Gahan will concentrate on the habits or “disciplines” that bring about growth and maturity in Christians, such as meditation, prayer, service, fasting, solitude, confession, and worship. The class will invite participants to both study and exercise these disciplines. Warning! This class demands a significant amount of homework, so, please only sign up for it if you have the time and compunction to complete the assignments and attend weekly.

A wanton and adulterous woman repeatedly spurns the love of her youth. Her betrayed and grieving husband offers forgiveness and seeks to restore the intimacy of their first love. Bold imagery indeed for telling the story of God and his people. Bolder still when God calls a prophet to enflesh this divine suffering and redeeming forgiveness in his own marriage. Teachers Scott Kitayama and Earl Stanley will delve into this remarkable story which sets the stage for Hosea’s message of God’s enduring love, his righteous judgment and his persistent offer of reconciliation.
